Raised in Adelaide, head chef Edward Noble discovered his love of cooking early. At the age of eleven, when not at school, Ed could be found helping out in the kitchen of one of Adelaide’s most famous Italian restaurants. Starting his apprenticeship at fourteen, Ed went on to be the youngest delegate at the biennial Terra Madre Salone del Gusto in Turin, an international event focused on food culture and slow food. Driven by these experiences, his formal culinary training, and the influences of mentors including Pam Tobin, and the United Nations Association of Australia’s Dr Lidia Moretti, Ed has developed a love of ethical and sustainable slow food. You may also notice some of Ed’s beautiful bonsais at Kissaten Alphington, along with his vegie garden in the courtyard.
EDWARD NOBLE
With over twenty years in hospitality, predominantly in senior roles in the liquor and coffee industries, Adam wanted to create a community venue that combined his love of great coffee and beautiful food in a relaxed and family friendly setting with subtle touches of Japan. From this came Kissaten Alphington. Adam is also looking forward to welcoming the newest and youngest member of the Kissaten Alphington family in September when he and his partner Miya are expecting their first child.

Kissaten Alphington in the inner north east delivers a menu of delicious cafe fare with a modern Japanese influence.

Inspired by his partner’s Japanese family, owner Adam Wright wanted to create a venue that reflected their Australian and Japanese heritage through beautiful food, great coffee and a relaxed atmosphere. With lots of natural light, Kissaten Alphington provides a newly renovated bright cafe inside, and the large courtyard with a Japanese themed garden is both perfect for sunny days and provides a great, dog friendly, undercover heated space for cooler Melbourne weather.
